Daniel A. "Dan" Tanner, III is an experienced Patent Attorney who stands ready to advise you on all aspects of securing patent protection for your innovations and inventive concepts.  With in-depth knowledge in both of the Mechanical and Electrical areas of practice, he can advise you how best to protect your rights and obtain success in commercializing your ideas.

Dan brings to the practice of Patent Law a wealth of life's experiences that he exhibits in his capacity to counsel individuals and enterprises in the spectrum of options available for securing, commercializing and enforcing intellectual property rights.  He has vast experience in advising and assisting clients in all aspects of patent law, from concept and protection strategy development, through working to secure patent rights where appropriate, to assisting in licensing and commercialization of products and services.

Following a successful career in the Navy, Dan had the incredible good fortune of being taught Patent Law by some tremendously talented patent attorneys with decades of experience who imparted to him the best of their knowledge and expertise. 

Dan's practice is client centric.  He has represented a large and diverse group of U.S. and international clients, from large multi-national corporations to individual entrepreneurs.  Dan is available to provide all manner of strategic client portfolio counseling, including comprehensive legal opinions on patent validity, patent infringement, patentability of inventive concepts, freedom to operate in commercial markets, and intellectual property licensing issues.  Dan’s widely-varied technical areas of expertise with mechanical and electrical inventions include: advanced energy harvesting concepts and green energy solutions; gas turbine engines; hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle technologies; image forming devices; aircraft preflight planning and flight crew coordination methods and support systems; voice and data acquisition; wireless communications; personal security identification; document security; aerial system collision avoidance systems and enhancements for unmanned aerial vehicles; HVAC&R systems, particularly for large computer data centers; and medical devices including in the areas of RF electrosurgery, stents and intravenous drug delivery.

Dan’s patent litigation experience includes drafting complex expert reports, detailed briefs in support of Motions for Summary Judgment, and Markman briefs.  Dan has led detailed document review efforts in complex litigation matters, and prepared numerous fact and expert witnesses for deposition and trial testimony.  Dan was the lead associate for representation of an international client including successfully resolving binding arbitration matters before an arbitration panel of three retired judges.

 

Dan brings unique technical and professional experience to the practice of Patent Law.  Dan retired from the U.S. Navy in 2003 after 23 years as a Naval Officer and Naval Aviator having flown Navy A-7 and FA-18 jet aircraft worldwide from the flight decks of aircraft carriers amassing in excess of 3500 flight hours and more than 850 carrier arrested landings.
